Court reporting is much more than the verbatim transcription of spoken language into the written word. A court reporter who does not comprehend and understand the meaning of oral dialogue is incapable of producing a verbatim transcript which accurately conveys the import of the proceedings. The skill, experience and knowledge base of a reporter play an important role in the creation of a useful transcript.

Consider this simple example from the deposition transcript of a ship crew member:
Q: Where did you last work in the Mediterranean?
     A: The AGNC.

This is not what a Halasz Reporter would have transcribed. Accurately transcribed by a Halasz reporter the answer would read: “The Aegean Sea.”
